About this item
Straight Condensing Turbines (SCT)
The energy found in the live inlet steam is expanded below atmospheric pressure (vacuum) and is utilized by the condensing turbines. Finally, the steam is vacuum-exhausted from the turbine to the surface condenser, where the exhaust steam’s latent heat is transferred to the cooling water. This is, in turn, returned to the boiler as feedwater and these condensing turbines are straight condensing types.
In addition, the condensing turbine may have bleed points (uncontrolled extractions) to meet steam requirements at medium, intermediate pressures. This provision applies when the bleed (medium pressure) steam volume demand is low, and pressure variations can be tolerated. These condensing turbines are of the bleed cum condensing type.
APPLICATION
They are primarily for power generation where bleed steam is required for feed water heating (HP heater, LP heater and Deaerator requirement) and/or where bleed steam is utilized to meet small process demands.
